How to make  a Cute Halloween Spider Pillow

Learn how to appliqué by using zigzag for this cute handmade spider pillow you can sew.

You can sketch a spider yourself or use this pattern. For this project you will need: Black felt, Orange Halloween fabric cut into two 12" squares, 2 buttons for eyes, a small piece of ribbon, and stuffing (fiberfill).

Find a spider pattern, sketch a spider, or you may copy our pattern on the photo to the left and enlarge it to how big you want your spider to be.  Mine is 8"X8".

Pin and cut out one spider on black felt.

Pin the black spider to the PRETTY SIDE of ONE of the orange fabric squares. Angle the head towards a corner.

Zigzag stitch close around the outer edge of the spider sewing on and off the outer edge. Pivot at the corners. This is what the pretty side should look like. This is a form of appliqué.
This is what the wrong or ugly side should look like.
Hand sew the two eyes in place.  Tie a bow with your ribbon and sew in place.
Place the two orange squares of fabric pretty sides together.
Pin around the square leaving a 5" opening in the middle of one side.

(This is where you will turn and stuff your pillow.)

Using a 1/4" seam or using the pressure foot as your guide, sew all the way around the pillow, pivoting at the corners.  Don't forget to leave the opening!

Clip your corners and trim the seams.

Turn your pillow pretty side out.

Stuff the pillow with fiberfill.

Hand sew the opening closed.

Your adorable, but yet "scary", Halloween spider pillow is done!
