Sewing Stuffed Animal Crafts

About Sewing Stuffed Animals - Sewing stuffed animals is very rewarding.  Besides keeping them for yourself, they make great gifts for other people. There is such a wide variety in size, shape, and animal that you could sew forever. Most stuffed animals are sewn with pretty sides together, leave an opening, turn the animal right side out,  then stuff, and sew the opening closed.
Best Fabric to Use - Light, medium, or heavy weight cotton will work best for making stuffed animals.  Fake fur works well on medium to large stuffed animals.
Easy type Pattern - Stuffed animals that are easy to sew have may have 1-3 pattern pieces, AND require little sewing around  curves or corners. The stuffed teddy bear as seen above has larger curves to sew around and only requires one pattern piece.
Difficult type Pattern  Stuffed animals that are more difficult to sew have many or small curves, and may have many pattern pieces. As seen above, the pig  has points and curves to sew around, this may be a little difficult for a beginner sewer. The kitty cat has above has 8 pattern pieces and would be for a more advance sewer.
Pattern Pieces - Pattern pieces can range from one, as shown in the teddy bear above, and up to 25 pieces for a more advanced project.
Cost & Fabric Usage - One benefit about making stuffed animals, is the smaller projects don't require a lot of fabric.  Therefore, little animals can be made with left over fabric from another project.  This saves money and time, and your animal has cost nothing to make.
Comments - Some stuffed animals come in kits, as seen in the elephant above.  Kits usually include pattern, fabric, directions, and some other supplies.  This kit had pre-printed elephant features on the fabric, making sewing a stuffed animal very quick and easy.  Other ways to make stuffed animals is by designing it yourself.  Draw it on paper for your pattern and go from there. This is how the fish, little cat, and frog were made.
