Sewing Handmade Dolls

This 1950's Handmade Muslin Doll won 1st place in one of our doll contests.

Best friends dolls hand made by 2 best friends on their last day of summer sewing camp

Amanda and her "Mermaid" doll, hand  made during summer sewing camps.

It is hard to see the great fairy that Catherine made in this picture.  But it was awesome... She chose colors of purples and greens, (like an outdoor fairy), and trimmed it in ivy....Great imagination and creativity Catherine!!!!

Early cloth doll bodies were homemade with scraps of fabric.  Nothing was thrown out or wasted back then.  Most were constructed with a front and a back including legs. The arms were attached separately. One piece body dolls were produced commercially in the early 1800's in many European countries.  By 1840 muslin bodies were being made that could sit. Click here for more history of the muslin doll.
