When pinning pattern pieces to
fabric the pins should be parallel to the cutting line on the pattern
piece as shown above. Notice the pin placement in the photo below
which shows incorrect pining for patterns.
The pins are perpendicular to the cutting
line. I have found that many students want to pin this way. When I
tell them it is not correct they can not understand why until I hand them
a pair of scissors and say pretend you are going to cut around the cutting
line. Then they realize that all the pins are in the way and stick
out.
When pinning a pattern place the pins
parallel to the cutting line as close to the line as you can making sure
they do not interfere with your cutting.
When ever you have a pattern
with a "Place on Fold" just like shown in the photo above, make sure
you pin your fold line first, then pin around the pattern piece.
This holds it in secure and places correctly on the grain for you.
