FREE Directions
for Making a Sewing Machine Cover |

It's easy to
make. Their fun to make, and every sewing machine needs one. This
pattern fits the "average" size sewing machine. |

Remember, the
machine cover doesn't need to be anything fancy, just so it covers your
machine and protects it from dust. But hey..., make it fancy, add some of
your own art on it, and send us a photo!
These directions are for the average size
machine. If yours is larger, than add accordingly to the measurements
given.
From cotton or calico fabric cut 2
rectangles 17" X 11" (or larger and cut a strip measuring 8" X 36". |

"Round off" the upper
two edges of your two rectangles as shown in photo 1 and 2. The rounded off
edges are the top of your cover. |

At this point you can
decorate one or both of your rectangle pieces. Be creative... You can
appliqué things on, or use "wonder under", what ever suites you, or you can
just make a plain cover. Pin
the pretty sides together of one of the rectangle pieces and the
strip as seen in photo 3. Pin the sides and top leaving the bottom
open. Stitch around the seam using the pressure foot as your guide.
Do this to the other rectangle piece
by pinning it to the other side of your strip. Sew. You should now
have a sewing machine cover :-) |

Let's hem it now.
On the ugly side of your cover turn up
the bottom 1/4 seam , press, turn it up again 1/4 seam, press, pin, and sew
your hem. (see photo 4)

It
is very important to keep your sewing machine covered when not in use.
It really does make a difference and
you want to protect it from dust, lint, scrapes, and nicks. Why put all
that money and effort into sewing if you are not going to protect your
equipment.
