How to Make a Country Christmas Tree Ornament

This adorable Christmas tree ornament is made from homespun's fabric, a cinnamon stick, a rusty bell, and it has sparkles ( Mica Flakes) on it just like the ornaments did from the 1940's and 1950's!!! Oh, and it's real easy to make!

Start with gathering some green homespun fabrics, a cinnamon stick, and a rusty bell.

Optional: spray adhesive, and sparkles or Mica Flakes

Draw yourself a tree ornament pattern.  Mine is 5 1/2" tall by 4 1/2" wide at the bottom. If you draw it on paper first you can keep this pattern and use it over and over again!

Pin and cut out two of green trees from homespun fabric.

Pin pretty sides together as shown in the photo. Leave an opening at the bottom for turning.

Stitch around the edge using the pressure foot as your guide.  MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE AN OPENING at the bottom so you can turn your tree ornament pretty side out.

Clip your corners.

Turn your ornament pretty side out.  Stitch a bell on the top.

Put a little bit of hot glue or Elmer's glue on the end of the cinnamon stick.  Put the cinnamon stick through the whole at the bottom of the tree.  Hand stitch around to help hold it in place.

At this point you could just add thread or string to the back of your ornament to hand it on the tree or use a Christmas hook.

This next step is optional, however, I feel the sparkles make the craft.  Using an all-purpose spay, spray your ornament.  Sprinkle some Mica flakes.

Your old-fashioned  homespun Christmas tree ornament is done!
