Sewing and Making Aprons

How to Make an Apron

Jamie showing a blue toile handmade apron trimmed in eyelet.

About Aprons - Aprons are fun and pretty easy to make.  They can be used for cooking, cleaning, gardening, art work, and more. Aprons come in full body like shown below or what is called a half apron like shown above.
Best Fabric to Use - The best fabric to use in making aprons would be cotton, denim, and calico.  Do not use stretch fabric when making aprons.
Easy type Pattern - An easy type of pattern for making aprons would be like the one shown above. It has 4 pattern pieces.
Difficult type Pattern A more difficult type of apron pattern to sew would be like the one shown below. It has 6 pieces and more steps in putting it together.
Pattern Pieces - Apron patterns can come in as little as 3 pieces and as many as 12.
Cost & Fabric Usage Fabric for a half apron requires about one and a half yards. Full aprons require more.
Comments - Sewing aprons can be very rewarding and are a great task for beginner sewers to attempt.  The apron history is quite interesting and I hope you take the time to read it.

Full aprons are similar to a dress cover and are in use to cover the top area as well as the waist down to the dress line.
