Sue made this quilt by
looking at a photo of a couple at their wedding. Sue says,
"The bride's mother is a coworker of my friend. I have
never met the couple but they have a true love story and I am a sucker for
romance. The couple were high school sweethearts and the groom was
severely injured and in the hospital for a long, long while. The picture
my friend sent me was already silhouetted and it screamed to be made into
a quilt. This picture was taken before I completed it, but it's the only
one I have." What a great
job Sue did on this quilt, and with such meaning coming from the heart.
The back ground was fabric pieces sewn together while the silhouette was
appliquéd on. This quilt combined different quilting methods for the
final product. |

Heather made this wonderful
version of our country's 1776 American flag. It will be hanging
proudly in her family's den. GREAT JOB HEATHER!!!!! |

Katherine made this fall rag
quilt with appliquéd leaves on it. The color scheme on this quilt is
beautiful. Notice around each square how it is ragged. This
took a lot of time to make, but the ending result is stunning!. |

Traditionally,
most appliqué on quilts were sewn by hand with turned under edges by
needle or pressed under, or over a template.
Today quicker and
easier methods of appliqué techniques work fine. This can be done
with fusible web to fasten the appliqué piece and then machine stitch with
free motion, or with a close set zig zag stitch to form a satin stitch
edging.

| The fun thing about quilt
appliquéing is that you can experiment with it and see what looks and
works best for
you. Many websites today offer free quilt patterns, beginner quilt
patterns, and easy free quilt patterns. If you want to
make an appliqué quilt of "a scene" and you don't have a good
artist hand for drawing the scenes then here are some suggestions:
1.Have a friend who is pretty good at art draw you
something, enlarge it to the size you want your appliqué quilt to be, then
have fun cutting it out and making your quilt.
2.Take a photograph that you already have and
enlarge it to the size you want your quilt, copy it, then have fun
transferring it to different color fabrics and fusing into a quilt.
3.Go through child's coloring books and look for
art work you can enlarge, copy, and then quilt.
4.Go on the internet to Free clip art and see if
there are some art works that you could use.
The ideas are endless. Appliqué quilting is just
like drawing a new picture, but you are using fabric and quilting it
instead!!! |

Kate also made the "African" quilt. She
originally made it for a friend but decided to keep it for herself.
She took her time and did a great job! |
